Race favorite Young Love showed speed from the start, repelled several challenges along the way, then held on late for a half-length victory Thursday at Del Mar in the allowance feature for California-bred fillies and mares on the day’s card.
The winner, a gray 3-year-old by the popular veteran stallion Grazen, ran six furlongs in 1:10.24 to pick up a first prize of $48,600 from the $81,500 purse. She now has $133,700 in earnings after scoring her third win in her fourth start.
The filly is owned by J. Kirk and Judy Robison, the leading owners at the Del Mar meet. She is trained by Peter Miller, who with the score moved into a tie as the meet’s top conditioner with Mark Glatt. And she was ridden by Juan Hernandez, who now has 16 wins through the first 12 days of the session to lead all riders.
Young Love paid $5.00 for each $2 bet on her after running the six panels in 1:10.24.
Finishing second was Cliff Sise, Jr.’s Danzingwith Maxine, who had four and three-quarters lengths on third-place finisher Caraway, Conboy or De Quevedo, et al’s Lady Gregory.
Racing will resume at the shore oval Friday with first post at 4 p.m.
