There will be 11 races and 108 runners scheduled for Sunday at Del Mar as the seaside track finishes up a strong weekend of the sport to start off its 2026 summer racing season.
The top event on the card will be the $100,000 Wickerr Stakes, a mile spin on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course that has lured nine older horses in what is considered an early meeting prep for one of the major grass stakes further down the road – either the Grade II, $300,000 Del Mar Mile on August 22 or the Grade II, $300,000 Del Mar Handicap on August 29.
The Wickerr appears to be a wide-open affair with several of the bunch likely to vie for favoritism. Among them are Blinkers On Racing Stable, Corbett, et al’s Freedom’s Not Free, Irving Ventures and partners’ Artislas and Benowitz Family Trust, CYBT and Nentwig’s King of Gosford.
The Wickerr will be the 9th Race on the card with a post time of approximately 6 p.m. First post on the afternoon is 2 p.m.
