In a field shortened to just four horses due to a pair of late scratches, the 4-year-old Complexity filly Pura Vida Princesa drew clear through the lane to register a length and three-quarters victory in the one mile turf test for allowance distaffers that was the feature attraction on the eight-race program.
The bay victress, who races in the silks of Superfecta King Stable, ran a mile on the green in 1:34.52 and proved best over pacesetter Ribbons, who is owned by Kretz Racing. Finishing third, a half length farther back, was Hronis Racing’s Raw Ability and bringing up the rear was Thiele Thoroughbreds’ Dreaming of Abba.
The winner returned $9.20 for $2 and because of the shortened lineup there was no show betting on the race. Veteran Joe Bravo was at the controls for trainer Doug O’Neill.
Pura Vida Princesa was scoring the third victory of her career in her 12th start. Her winner’s share of the purse of $49,200 pushed her bankroll to $189,340.
The triumph was O’Neill’s second on the day and pushed his leading conditioner total to 19 firsts on Day 21 of the stand.
Racing will resume at Del Mar on Saturday with first post at 2 p.m. The card will feature four Graded stakes, including the $1-million, Grade I Pacific Classic.
