Jay Em Ess Stable, the nom du course of longtime California owner Samantha Siegel, had their filly No Cap prove quickest in a field of eight Cal-bred distaff runners on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course Thursday at Del Mar and the daughter of Dads Caps registered by a length and a quarter in the day’s allowance feature.
Veteran Brian Koriner trains No Cap and she was handled by turf specialist Umberto Rispoli in the five-furlong dash. The tally was her third lifetime to go along with three seconds and three thirds in a total of 14 starts. She picked up a first prize of $48,600 from the $82,500 purse, which pushed her career earnings to $164,340.
Finishing second in the test was Great Friends Stables or Here We Go Brothers’ Press Your Luck, who had just a nose on BMWZ Stable, Levine or Malarkey, et al’s Freya.
No Caps ran the five furlongs in :58.20 and returned $11.40 to her supporters in the midweek crowd.
Racing is back again at Del Mar Friday with first post at 3 p.m.
