Longshots Trigger Carryover on Opening Day at Del Mar

A parade of longshots ruled the day – opening day – at Del Mar Friday as a Veterans Day gathering of 9,022 saw a Pick Six carryover of $55,093 materialize on a lovely autumn afternoon.

With nary a favorite in the mix, the final six races on the first of 15 cards at the Fall meeting registered big numbers along with indigestion for favorite players at the seaside oval.

Besides the regular Pick Six carryover, the track also saw its first Single Ticket Jackpot of $11,805 marked up in a new addition to the popular exotic bet.

Jockey Santiago Gonzalez and the 2-year-old filly Mo’vette started the big-price afternoon with a $24.40 victory in Race 4.  From there it went like this:

(5th) Pumpkin Star (Austin Solis the rider) at $64.20; (6th) Comes the Dream (Mike Smith) at $10.20; (7th) Kenny Benny (Gonzalez) at $19.20; (8th) Do the Dance in the featured Kathryn Crosby Stakes (Tyler Baze) at $28, and (9th) Herunbridledpower (Martin Garcia) at $12.80.

The winner numbers were 6-5-5-1-4-9.

Racing will resume at Del Mar Saturday with first post at 12:30 p.m.
