Inch Proves Length The Best in Feature Thursday at Del Mar

The chestnut gelding Inch teamed up with the Hall of Fame rider Mike Smith and they came away a three-quarter length winner Thursday at Del Mar in a starter allowance turf sprint that was the day’s featured event.

The 5-year-old by the Kentucky sire Violence was guided widest of all around the turn by the veteran reinsman, then outran eight rivals in the straight to take the top prize in the five-furlong dash. He ran the distance in :56.72 to register the third victory of his career. He picked up a first prize of $27,000 from the total purse of $47,000 to raise his career earnings mark to $100,100.

Finishing second was S. J. S. Stables or Diamond’s Daniel’s Magic, who had a neck on Featherston, Lambert or Underhill, et al’s Stotland.

The winner paid $8.20, $3.80 and $2.80 across the board. Daniel’s Magic returned $3.20 and $2.60, while Stotland paid $5.40 to show.

The track’s Pick Six Single Ticket Jackpot wager once again could not be solved by the racing public and carried over to Friday’s card. The carryover amounted to $192,584.
