Breeders' Cup Reveals Official Logo for 2021 Breeders' Cup World Championships

Breeders’ Cup simultaneously launches two sweepstakes promotions in celebration

Breeders’ Cup, one of Thoroughbred horse racing’s most prestigious international events, today unveils the official logo for the 2021 Breeders’ Cup World Championships, which will be held on Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6 at the Del Mar racetrack in Del Mar, California for the second time in the event’s history. To learn more about the 2021 Breeders’ Cup World Championships and to sign up for ticket information, fans can visit http://www.breederscup.com/2021.

The new, sleek logo boasts a prominent diamond-shaped center, inspired by Del Mar’s use of the diamond in their brand logo, on their starting gate and throughout their facility. A blue banner, which pays homage to the shape and color of Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s official logo, divides the diamond shape into two distinct sections, each of which is dedicated to one of the two individual hosting entities.

The top half of the 2021 logo features the Breeders’ Cup logo while the façade of the San Diego area landmark is boldly displayed on the bottom in Breeders’ Cup’s signature colors of purple and gold. A second blue banner containing the words “Del Mar” wraps around the bottom of the logo, the entirety of which is bordered and brought together by a thick, contrasting line in the event’s purple hue.

The new logo – which will be displayed in marketing materials, digital and social media content, merchandise, live broadcasts and more – was designed by SME Branding, a sports branding agency that specializes in brand strategy and identity development. SME has collaborated with other world-class sports brands, such as the Atlanta Braves and the Kentucky Derby, since its founding in 1989. This is the fourth time Breeders’ Cup has tapped SME to design the official logo for the World Championships since the agency first created the logo for the 2017 event.

“We are incredibly proud to unveil the logo for the 2021 Breeders’ Cup World Championships,” said Craig Fravel, President and CEO of Breeders’ Cup. “Our inaugural run at Del Mar in 2017 was an enormous success and energized our fans from around the world like never before. We’re excited to return to this spectacular locale in 2021, and the new logo is the perfect symbol for our upcoming reunion.”

To celebrate the reveal of the new logo and to heighten anticipation for the upcoming event, Breeders’ Cup has launched two promotions for guests to win tickets to the 2021 World Championships. For the first promotion, two temporary photo activations featuring the 2021 event logo have been installed at Del Mar racetrack for Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18. During that time, fans are encouraged to visit the photo activation to take images and share on social media. Those who post their photos on Instagram and Twitter and tag @BreedersCup, #BC21 and #Sweepstakes will be entered into a lottery to win two tickets to the 2021 World Championships.

For the second promotion, both Breeders’ Cup and Del Mar will upload images of the 2021 World Championships logo on their official Twitter and Instagram accounts on Saturday, August 17. One lucky fan who retweets or reposts the images with the #BC21 and #Sweepstakes hashtags before midnight on Sunday, August 18 will receive two tickets to the 2021 Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

About Del Mar

Del Mar, just a few furlongs from the Pacific Ocean, has been a racing destination since its founding in 1937 by entertainment icon Bing Crosby and a crew of his Hollywood pals. Owner-breeder Crosby, known as the original laid-back Californian, put his special stamp on the place “where nobody’s in a hurry but the horses.” Bing penned and sang a ditty called “Where the Turf Meets the Surf” in 1938 and the song is still played today at the start and finish of every card. The seaside oval is one of America’s racing stalwarts, a proving grounds for stars-in-the-making and stars-in-fact guided by first-rate horsemen and enjoyed by enthusiastic crowds all summer long. Del Mar also conducts a second racing meet – the Bing Crosby Season – during the month of November. For more information, call 858-755-1141 or visit DelMarRacing.com.
