Next Wave Racing’s Baltic Fire, the longest shot on the board at 50-1, turned in a furious run through the stretch, burst clear at the wire in a five-horse photo and came away the winner Thursday at Del Mar in the grassy allowance feature.

The 4-year-old filly by Flameaway was winning the third race of her career in her 11th start and returned a whopping $116.40 for a $2 bet. Serafin Carmona rode the chestnut for trainer Simon Callaghan.

Finishing second in the jumble at the finish was Exline-Border Racing, Hauisman or Zubola’s Vibez and third was C R K Stable’s Paradise Lake. The margins for the first five horses at the finish were a half length, a nose, a nose, a half length and a half length.

Baltic Fire picked up a purse of $49,200 from the $82,000 purse, pushing her earnings to $150,400.

Racing resumes at Del Mar Friday with a first post at 4 p.m.
