$547,421 Pick Six Carryover has 'Mandatory Payout' for Monday

For the second day in row, a carryover occurred in the Pick Six bet at Del Mar, this one the largest of the meet at $547,421. It will be placed in the Pick Six pool to start on Monday, closing day, which means there cannot be another carryover and a mandatory payout on the popular bet will be required.

Carryovers of this size normally attract several million dollars in “chase” money and – with the mandatory payout adding more buzz to the bet – the pool is expected to swell by an additional $2- to $3-million.

The carryover into Sunday’s six-race sequence was $128,534 and it attracted $645,729 in “new” money for a total pool of $774,263.

The numerical sequence on races 5 through 10 for Sunday’s Pick Six was 11-8-8-11-4-2. Only the 10th race winner, The Spiral Jetter, was a race favorite under Rafael Bejarano and she returned $9.80.

The winners were (5th Race) Nazareth $8.20 (rider Tyler Baze); (6th Race) the John C. Mabee Stakes won by Avenge $17.60 (Flavien Prat); (7th Race) Gormley $15.40 (Victor Espinoza); (8th Race) the Del Mar Derby won by Free Rose $25.80 (Norberto Arroyo, Jr.); (9th Race) Mesa Sky $44.80 (Kent Desormeaux), and The Spiral Jetter.

The lone ticket picking five winners Sunday was rewarded with $73,921.

Monday’s Pick Six will be on races 5 through 10.  First post for closing day is at 2 p.m.
