A Pick Six carryover of $128,534 will preload the betting pool for the popular exotic wager Sunday when Del Mar presents the penultimate day of sport of its 77th summer race meet.

Price horses predominated in the six-race sequence that finished out with the numbers 12-8-6-10-8. Nary a favorite was able to win between races 6 to 11.

Notable among the upsetters was Union Strike (No. 7) in the 9th race, the featured $300,000, Grade I Del Mar Debutante.  The 2-year-old filly won the first race of her life in the seven-furlong headliner under rider Martin Garcia and returned $17.40 for $2.

The other winners were (6th Race) Bowies Hero $14.40 (jockey Rafael Bejarano); (7th Race) Ponder Lea $24.60 (Santiago Gonzalez); (8th Race) Offshore $13.20 (Kent Desormeaux); Union Strike; (10th Race) Barhanpour $35.60 (Brice Blanc), and (11th Race) Cause I’m Bad $32.80 (Jamie Theriot).

The total Pick Six pool Saturday was $198,154.

Carryovers the size of the one that will start off Sunday’s Pick Six wagering usually attract upwards of $500,000 in “chase” money.  The Pick Six Sunday will be on races 5 through 10.

First post Sunday is at 2 p.m.
