The 39th running of the Real Good Deal Stakes – a Cal-bred special for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs -- will be up for grabs at Del Mar Friday with a full field of 11 planning on joining in on the fun.
The race will go as the seventh of eight on the Friday card with a likely post time of approximately 5 p.m. It carries a purse of $150,000 and will be the second of eight Golden State offering available at the shore meet this summer.
Possible favorite in the test is Reddam Racing’s homebred Pavlovian, who has been hanging out with much better company of late. The gray by Pavel comes into the heat after having run in a trio of open, graded stakes including no less an affair than the Kentucky Derby, where he showed a bit of speed early on, then packed his tent and pulled in last.
The Doug O’Neill-trained youngster will be handled by Edwin Maldonado on Friday as they come out of Post 8 in the seven-furlong chute on the Del Mar backside.
Also of note in the lineup is Harris Farm’s homebred Start the Ride and Legacy Ranch’s homebred Courtside Action, the former breaking from the far outside and the latter from the inside No. 1 post.
Friday will be Day 9 of a 32-day session at the beach. First post, as always now, is 2 p.m.
