She's Not Here Springs Upset in Del Mar Feature

She’s Not Here, an 11-1 longshot invader from the Midwest making her California debut, rallied from off the pace under Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith to win Thursday’s feature at one mile over the Del Mar grass.

She’s Not Here, a daughter of Street Cry trained by Vickie Oliver, scored by a convincing length and three-quarters over 25-1 outsider Beat of The Drum, with 2-1 second choice checking in third a half-length behind the runner-up and a length and one-quarter in front of fourth-place Famous Alice.

Istanford, the 6-5 favorite under Rafael Bejarano, set the pace for most of the journey but faltered in the stretch to be fifth, beating only Kool Kat to the wire. Istanford was a two-time Del Mar stakes-winner last summer, capturing the San Clemente and Sandy Blue.

She’s Not Here, owned by G. Watts Humphrey, Jr. and St. George Farm Racing, ran the distance in 1:34.61 and returned $25.60, $10.60 and $4 while scoring her fourth victory in 15 starts. Beat of The Drum paid $18.20 and $6, while Indecise returned $3 to show.

With a carryover of $63,705 from Wednesday and $504,951 in “new” money Thursday, the Pick Six pool totaled $568,656. There was one perfect ticket and it paid $333,444.80, largest Pick Six payoff of the season thus far.

Attendance totaled 7,818 Thursday.
