Risky Proposition, the least-fancied entrant at 22-1 in a field of seven three-year-olds, rallied powerfully in the stretch under Joe Talamo to win the featured $79,840 Let It Ride Stakes Saturday at Del Mar.

Outrun in the early stages of the one-mile contest over the infield grass circuit, Risky Proposition hit his best stride in the upper stretch and continued on strongly to take the lead inside the final sixteenth and win by three-quarters of a length.

Choo Choo, like the victor a longshot, at 14-1, closed well to win a three-way battle for place honors, finishing a head in front of Calexman, who in turn was a head in front of the 4-5 favorite, Prince Earl.

Risky Proposition, a son of Bodemeister, was claimed by trainer Bill Spawr for $50,000 in late July at Del Mar on behalf of owners Barry and Judith Becker, Tom Acker, Tom Wafer, Jr., and Jon Lindo.  In two subsequent starts, he was fourth and second.

Risky Proposition was timed in 1:34.61 as he earned $46,680 with his third victory in nine lifetime efforts. He returned $47, $17.80 and $6.40. Runner-up Choo Choo paid $12.60 and $6.20, while Calexman returned $4.20 to show.

Saturday’s Pick Six paid $9,646 to each of 16 bettors who had perfect tickets. With a carryover of $32,265 and $228,514 bet Saturday, the total Pick Six pool was $260,779.

Racing resumes Sunday, featuring the $100,000 Betty Grable Stakes for older fillies and mares, followed by a special Veterans Day program Monday. Post time both days will be 12:30 p.m.
