Opus Won Prevails in Del Mar Feature

Little Red Feather Racing’s Opus Won, the even-money favorite under leading rider Flavien Prat, led from start to finish to win Del Mar’s feature race Thursday, gamely withstanding a two-pronged attack near the finish to score by a neck.

Opus Won, trained by Richard Baltas, was well-rated in front by Prat and had enough in reserve to resist the late challenges of runner-up Sedamar and third-place Shehastheritestuff. Please Do was fourth in the field of ten California-bred fillies and mares.

Opus Won, a three-year-old daughter of Eddington, returned $4, $2.80 and $2.20  after recording her second victory in seven starts. Sedamar, who went postward at 8-1 under Ruben Fuentes, paid $7.20 and $3.60, while Shehastheritestuff returned $3 to show.

Time for the mile over the infield grass course was1:34.51.

Opus Won provided Prat with his second win of the afternoon, also having won the third race aboard Convoluted at $4.20. Also doubling Thursday was Prat’s closest pursuer in the jockey standings, Drayden Van Dyke, who won the first on Satanta at $5 and the fourth on Stylishly at $6.20. Prat leads, 13-7, after seven days of the current summer season.
