Pappas Racing’s Moonless Sky, under a well-timed ride by jockey Kent Desormeaux, swept to the front nearing the wire to win Sunday’s feature race at one mile over Del Mar’s infield Jimmy Durante Grass Course.

Moonless Sky, the 8-5 favorite in a field of eight older fillies and mares, collared Cordiality in the final strides to win by a head in 1:36.42. Third was Bernina Star, a length and one-quarter farther back and a nose in front of fourth-place Starlite Style.

The winner, a four-year-old daughter of Bold Chieftain, returned $5.40, $3.20 and $2.40 after her fifth victory in a dozen starts. Eddie Truman is her trainer. Runner-up Cordiality, who was piloted by Tyler Baze, paid $4.60 and $3.40, while Bernina Star returned $5.60 to show.

Favorites won seven of the nine races Sunday at Del Mar, in contrast to the string of upsets that characterized the second day of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships Saturday.
