Mended, an invader to Del Mar from Northern California, continued her rise from the lowly claiming ranks as she scored her seventh consecutive victory since being claimed at Golden Gate Fields for $12,500 in early January as she won the seaside track’s feature race Thursday.

With regular rider Richardo Gonzalez in the saddle, Mended dueled Avicii into submission in the stretch and drew out to win by three and one-quarter lengths in 1:37.47 for the mile on the main track. Avicii held on well to be second, three and three-quarter lengths ahead of Plastered in the field of six fillies and mares. Mangita was a scratch from the original line-up.

Run for Retts was ruled a non-starter by the board of stewards and a refund of all wagers on the horse was paid out. The stewards reported that an assistant starter had a hold of Run for Retts who became unruly in the gate just at the break. Total money refunded was $114,158.46.

Mended, a daughter of Broken Vow, is owned by Troy and Maritza Onarato and trained by John Martin. She returned $11.60, $5.60 and $3.20. Runner-up Avicii paid $4 and $2.80, while Plastered returned $2.40 to show.
