Just Grazed Me Wins Del Mar Grass Sprint

Ultra-consistent Just Grazed Me, owned and bred by Nick Alexander in California, cruised to a convincing victory in Wednesday’s Del Mar feature, a five-furlong dash on the grass for older fillies and mares.

With Geovanni Franco in the saddle, Just Grazed Me, who came into the race never worse than third in seven starts, stepped to the lead turning into the stretch and continued on to win by a length in a quick :55.90 for the distance.

Storming Lady closed well to be second, a length and one-quarter in front of Gypsy Blu, with Holly Hundy fourth in the field eight.

Just Grazed Me, trained by Phil d’Amato, went postward the favorite and paid $4.40, $3 and $2.20 after her fourth victory. The gray daughter of Grazen also has three seconds and a third, in the July 20 Daisycutter, in her career.

Runner-up Storming Lady paid $4.80 and $3.60, while Gypsy Blu returned $3.20 to show.

Apprentice Jorge Velez won two races, the second on Adulting at $4.80 and the nightcap seventh aboard An Ocala Ten, $8.40. Also with two victories today was trainer Bob Hess, Fire When Ready, $13.20 in the third, and Equal Measure, $9.40 in the fourth.
