Spartan Equine Racing or West Point Thoroughbreds’ Christel Clean, a solid favorite in a field of nine California-bred fillies and mares, was urged to the front early by leading rider Joel Rosario, then just drew clear from there to a seven and a half length tally in the one-mile feature at Del Mar Thursday.

The 4-year-old daughter of Violence now has three scores and four seconds in 10 starts and earned a first prize of $48,600 from the $81,000 allowance purse to push her career earnings to $203,840.

The winner covered the mile on the main track in 1:37.25. She paid $4.20 for $2.

Finishing second in the test was Grenier, Kruljac and partners’ Kool Mariah, who had eight and a half lengths on Carliwood Farms and partners’ Cecilia Street.

Racing will resume at Del Mar Friday with first post at 2 p.m.
