Include Me Out Faces 8 In Clement L. Hirsch Stakes

Jay Em Ess Stable’s classy Include Me Out, the leader of the older filly and mare division in the West, will be seeking to surpass the $1 million mark in earnings Saturday when she  defends her title in the Grade I $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at a mile and one-sixteenth over Del Mar’s main track.

With regular rider Joe Talamo in the saddle again, Include Me Out, a winner of seven of 14 career races and $956,030, figures to go postward a solid favorite when she faces eight distaff rivals in the middle-distance affair.

Include Me Out, a five-year-old daughter of Include conditioned by Ron Ellis, won the Hirsch Stakes a year ago, narrowly defeating Star Billing as the 8-5 favorite. She completed her 2012 campaign with a creditable third to Eclipse champion Royal Delta in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic at Santa Anita.

She comes into Saturday’s Hirsch renewal fresh from an impressive triumph in the six-furlong Desert Stormer Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park June 13, her first start of the year.

Seeking to thwart Include Me Out Saturday will be Lady of Fifty, Corey Nakatani; Byrama, the Vanity Handicap winner with Gary Stevens; Quiet Oasis, Mario Gutierrez; Midwest invader Sisterhood, Victor Espinoza; well-traveled Via Villaggio, Mike Smith; Vanity runner-up More Chocolate, Rafael Bejarano; Sister Kate, Martin Pedroza, and Great Hot, Chantal Sutherland-Kruse.

The Clement L. Hirsch Stakes is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series wherein winners automatically for a berth in a Breeders’ Cup race,  in this case the Breeders’ Cup Distaff among other benefits.

Post time for the first of ten races Saturday will be 2 p.m.
