Game On Dude Voted 2013 Horse Of The 2013 Meeting
Game On Dude, whose tour de force victory in the $1 million TVG Pacific Classic completed a sweep of California's most prestigious races for older horses, was a unanimous choice as Horse of the Meeting and top older horse by vote of the media.
Ridden by Martin Garcia and trained by Bob Baffert, Game On Dude simply ran away in Del Mar's signature race to win by a record 8 1/2 lengths in a time of 2:00.69 for the 1 1/4 miles. The 6-year-old gelding, owned by the partnership of Bernie Schiappa, former New York Yankees and L.A. Dodgers manager Joe Torre and the Mercedes Stable of Ernest Moody and Maria Mercedes Villa, added the Pacific Classic to previous wins in the Santa Anita Handicap and Hollywood Gold Cup to join Lava Man in 2006 as the only horses to sweep that California triple in the same year.
Del Mar Debutante winner She's a Tiger was a unanimous choice in the 2-year-old filly division and Del Mar Futurity winner Tamarando was only one vote shy of unanimity as top 2-year-old. Diamond Bachelor, who displayed brilliance winning the Oak Tree Juvenile Turf on closing day, received the one vote.
Bing Crosby Stakes winner Points Offthebench was voted the top sprinter, Eddie Read Stakes victor Jeranimo top grass horse and Tiz Flirtatious garnered older filly or mare division honors off her triumph in the John C. Mabee Stakes.
Respective victories in the Del Mar Derby and Del Mar Oaks lifted Gabriel Charles and Discreet Marq to top 3-year-old and 3-year-old filly championships.
