Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ Whisk, hustled to the front in the opening strides by jockey Tyler Baze, held on gamely near the wire to win the feature race Thursday at Del Mar, a five-furlong sprint over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course.

Whisk, a four-year-old Elusive Beauty filly trained by Michael McCarthy, scored by a head over the 20-1 longshot Not too Shiny, with Cover Song another head back in third place in the field of eight fillies and mares.

Whisk, sent to the gate at 4-1, paid $10.60, $6.60 and $3.80 after running the distance in 57.27 for her second victory in ten starts. Not too Shiny returned $14 and $7.60, while Cover Song paid $3.60 to show.

There were 12 perfect tickets in Thursday’s Pick Six and each was worth $26,654.40. With a carryover of $59,871 from Wednesday and $391,313 in “new” money Thursday, the total Pick Six pool was $451,184.
