Majestic Heat Tops Field of Eight in Betty Grable Stakes Sunday

Majestic Heat

Two-time Del Mar stakes-winner Majestic Heat, sixth in the Goldikova Stakes a week ago, returns to action at the seaside oval Sunday versus seven older California-bred filly and mare rivals in the $100,000 Betty Grable Stakes at seven furlongs on the main track.

Majestic Heat, winner of the Solana Beach Stakes on grass for the past two summers, both victories by a nose margin, was sixth of 14 behind Kitten’s Roar in the Goldikova Stakes on Breeders’ Cup Saturday. The five-year-old daughter of Unusual Heat will be making her first start on a dirt surface in the Grable Stakes. Flavien Prat has the call from Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella.

Among those opposing Majestic Heat will be Barbara Beatrice, winner of the California Distaff at Santa Anita October 14, scoring by three-quarters of a length at six and one-half furlongs on the downhill turf course. Regular rider Tiago Pereira will be aboard for trainer Phil D’Amato.

Others in the line-up are Run for Retts, Rafael Bejarano; Late ‘n Left, Stewart Elliott; Bad Ju Ju, Drayden Van Dyke; How About Zero, Mario Gutierrez; Cuddle Alert, Edwin Maldonado, and Time for Ebby, Joe Talamo.

Post time for the first of nine races is 12:30 p.m.
