Graded stakes winner Himika heads the lineup in the $100,000 Desi Arnaz stakes, going seven furlongs for two-year-old fillies on Sunday at Del Mar.
One of three fillies entered on Sunday exiting the Anoakia Stakes, Baffert trained Himika looks to add another stake victory to her resume. Himika won her debut going five furlongs on June 12 by six lengths. She subsequently entered graded stakes company going six furlongs here in the Grade III Sorrento stakes and won by 1 1/4 lengths. Her second try in graded stakes company was the Del Mar Debutante where she finished off the board going seven furlongs. In her most recent outing, Himika took the Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita on October 19 by 4 ¼ lengths over Revera and third place finisher Stuffy Mist, who are also entered in the Arnaz. The Curlin filly is 5-3-0-0 overall and has earnings of $202,822 for owners Baoma Corp. She will retain the services of Juan Hernandez who has guided her to all her victories.
Revera, trained by John Sadler, is looking to turn the tables on Himika and earn her first stakes win since exiting a second-place finish by two lengths in front of Stuffy Mist in the Anoakia stakes. The Lexitonian filly, graduated as the favorite in a field of 10 in her second time out, going five and a half furlongs on September 6 at Del Mar by 5 ½ lengths. Owned by Saints or Sinners, Titletown Racing Stables et al, Revera is 3-1-2-0 with $82,274 in earnings. She will have regular rider Antonio Fresu aboard.
