Single Ticket Hits Del Mar Pick Six for $190,433 Thursday

A very cagey – or very lucky – or likely both – bettor hit Del Mar’s Pick Six Thursday for a husky payoff of $190,433 as a solo ticket winner, thus cashing in the “Jackpot” portion of the multiple-bet pool. Track officials were able to confirm the ticket was sold in Las Vegas for the sum of $4,860.

The day’s Pick Six payout amounted to $76,040. But as the lone ticket holder the player also earned the “Jackpot” portion of the pool that had carried over from the previous five days and totaled $114,392.

The six-race sequence unfolded like this: Race 3 -- #10 Vigorously Juan ($21.40); Race 4 -- #3 Angel Allie ($16.40); Race 5 -- #9 Veronica Bay ($59.80); Race 6 -- #9 Hold That Smile ($3.00): Race 7 -- #8 Touching Rainbows ($5.20), and Race 8 -- #1 R Sunday Surprise ($16.40).

The Race 8 winner is by Lucky Pulpit out of the Not For Love mare Love the Chase, making her a full sister to two-time Horse of the Year California Chrome. The chestnut 3-year-old filly is trained by Kristin Mulhall and was ridden by Israel Ocampo as she won the one-mile turf race for straight maidens by a head.

There were 32 tickets with five winners in the bet and each of them received $509.20.

Racing at Del Mar resumes at 4 p.m. Friday.
