Stakes Notes

DEL MAR, CALIFORNIA                                      WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 2013

ALBERTO DELGADO (California Chrome, winner) This is my first win at Del Mar and, obviously, to do it in a hundred grander is very special. Im pumped. This is a nice colt and Im tickled I got to ride him again. I broke his maiden (May 17 at Betfair Hollywood Park) and the next day I broke my ankle. When he came back and ran last time (a fifth-place finish in Willard Proctor Memorial at Betfair Hollywood Park on June 15), I couldnt ride and I was sick about it. But they put me back on today and Im just delighted. Hes a nice colt and hes going to get better.

JOE TALAMO (Moving Desert, second) Shes a nice little filly. When I got her out (turning for home), I thought I was going to catch that 8 horse (California Chrome). But he just kept on running.

RAFAEL BEJARANO (Gangnam Guy, third) I wasnt ready for the break and we missed it. It cost me my position right to start. And he came running late. I dont know if we were going to catch the winner, but it cost me second (place) for sure.

ART SHERMAN (California Chrome, winner) -- He was a little bit green (when fifth in the Willard Proctor Memorial last out). I could see him ducking in and out, so I put blinkers on him. Alberto (Delgado) knows him so well and you could see today that he was all business. We might run him in the Futurity and see what happens. I think the farther he goes the better.
