Del Mar PolyTrack

Friday, February 16th

Crews have been installing perforated PVC pipe for the draining system under the Polytrack surface. The trenching equipment, which can do up to 6,000 feet of trench per day, has made quick work of preparing for the the three rows of pipe that encircle the track. The trenches, along with perpendicular ones that connect them, are lined with filter cloth and stone aggregate before the pipes are laid in place.

Filter cloth will then be laid on the flat surfaces between the trenches and the entire surface covered with a layer of stone aggregate. This next step is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 20.

The perforated PVC drainage pipe will carry water from beneath the track surface.

Workers clear the edge of the trench being cut for drainage pipe.

A worker makes sure the aggregate surface is ready for the placement of a pipe segment in one of the connecting trenches.

The first of three rows of drainage pipe arches around the Clubhouse turn.

Aggregate covers the pipes within the trenches.

The outer railing is being reinstalled on the Clubhouse turn near the 7-furlong chute.
