OPENING DAY When: July 18, 2012 More than 45,000+ race fans are expected to attend what's defined as one of the most fabulous, fashionable and fun festivities in the west -- Opening Day at Del Mar. This day is not only about big bets and fast horses, but celebrating the season in style. Fashion-minded guests participate in Del Mar's annual tradition "One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest" where entrants are judged on creativity and style. Stretch Run Admission: $10 Clubhouse Admission: $20
HATS CONTEST When: Wednesday, July 18, 11:30 - 3:00 pm Where: Plaza de Mexico Opening Day Hats Contest presented by San Diego Hat Co. Opening Day will be highlighted by the unique One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest, presented by San Diego Hat Co. The wearing of hats is a tradition on Opening Day at Del Mar. Hats contest entrants will be judged on creativity and style by a panel of celebrity judges. Sign up between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm in the Plaza de Mexico located just inside the Stretch Run entrance gates. Be sure to watch the Hats Parade at 3:00 pm. Hats Categories: 1) Best Racing Theme 2) Funniest or Most Outrageous 3) Most Glamorous 4) Best Flowers/All Others Bing Crosby Grand Prize: Two Round-Trip Airline Vouchers to anywhere in the U.S. aboard American Airlines (Some restrictions apply) Prizes: First place in each category-$300 Second place in each category-$200 Third place in each category-$100 All Hats Contest entrants receive two free admission passes for a future visit to the races.
NEWCOMERS' SEMINAR When: Daily, 1:00-1:45 pm; Fridays - 3:00-3:45 pm Where: Plaza de Mexico Newcomers' Seminars -1 hour prior to the first race. -Plaza de Mexico by Stretch Run admission gates Need racing questions answered? Learn everything you need to know about the races, the horses, the betting, racing terminology and strategies, along with tips and picks in an easy-to-understand seminar. DIAMOND CLUB FREE ADMISSION DAY When: Sunday, August 30 On Sunday, August 30, all Diamond Club members will receive FREE Stretch Run or Clubhouse admission when they present their card at the Admission Gate. For more information, click here: DIAMOND CLUB
Friday Happy Hour When: Gates Open until 5:00 p.m. Don't miss Happy Hour at Del Mar. Get to the track early on Fridays and take advantage of tons of drink specials. From gates open until 5:00 p.m.: $5 margaritas $2 off call drinks, draft beers, house wine Promotion available at Stretch Run and Clubhouse bars only (Not available in Restaurants, Suites, Sky Boxes, Turf Club).
MARINE APPRECIATION DAY When: Monday, September 7 Come honor our troops on "Marine Appreciation Day at Del Mar". All active military receive FREE Stretch Run admission. There will be a presentation in the Winners Circle after the 4th race.
PINK DAY AT THE RACES When: Saturday, September 3 Support breast cancer awareness by wearing pink and receive FREE Stretch Run Admission on Saturday, September 3. Enter the Pink Gate at the Stretch Run entrance. Gather up your loose change and stop to make a donation to the Susan G. Komen For The Cure "Make Change" campaign by depositing change in pink buckets after you enter the Stretch Run admission gates. Stop by the Plaza de Mexico fountain area, inside the Stretch Run admission gates, for activities including: -Free Mini-Spa Treatments provided by Spa Gregorie's -Free Nail Treatments provided by Shellac -Booths and vendors
COLLEGE DAY When: Friday, September 3 Friday, Sept. 3, is College Day at Del Mar! Show a valid college I.D. and receive FREE Stretch Run Admission and FREE Racetrack Program!" Check out the party in the trackside Seaside Cabana, located at the West end of the Grandstand, during the races and stay for a FREE concert featuring The English Beat. First race is at 3:30 pm. The concert starts following the last race, scheduled for 7:00 pm.
