OPENING DAY When: July 18, 2012 More than 45,000+ race fans are expected to attend what's defined as one of the most fabulous, fashionable and fun festivities in the west -- Opening Day at Del Mar. This day is not only about big bets and fast horses, but celebrating the season in style. Fashion-minded guests participate in Del Mar's annual tradition "One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest" where entrants are judged on creativity and style. Stretch Run Admission: $10 Clubhouse Admission: $20
HATS CONTEST When: Wednesday, July 18, 11:30 - 3:00 pm Where: Plaza de Mexico Opening Day Hats Contest presented by San Diego Hat Co. Opening Day will be highlighted by the unique One and Only Truly Fabulous Hats Contest, presented by San Diego Hat Co. The wearing of hats is a tradition on Opening Day at Del Mar. Hats contest entrants will be judged on creativity and style by a panel of celebrity judges. Sign up between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm in the Plaza de Mexico located just inside the Stretch Run entrance gates. Be sure to watch the Hats Parade at 3:00 pm. Hats Categories: 1) Best Racing Theme 2) Funniest or Most Outrageous 3) Most Glamorous 4) Best Flowers/All Others Bing Crosby Grand Prize: Two Round-Trip Airline Vouchers to anywhere in the U.S. aboard American Airlines (Some restrictions apply) Prizes: First place in each category-$300 Second place in each category-$200 Third place in each category-$100 All Hats Contest entrants receive two free admission passes for a future visit to the races.
$50 HANDICAPPING CONTEST- More Than $15,000 in Prize Money When: Every Sunday/Final Round on Sunday, Sept. 4 Where: On-track only Test your handicapping skills and compete for more than $15,000 in prize money. Format: $20 entry fee. Players fund $50 live-money contest wagering card. Wager $5 Win/$5 Place (Total $10) on one horse in any five Del Mar races (Total $50). Players keep all winnings. Maximum 2 entries per person. Players may qualify multiple times for the Final Round September 4. Weekly Prizes: 1st Place- $1,000 2nd Place- $500 Top 5 finishers win $50 and qualify for the Final Round Sunday, Sept. 4. The $50 is used for the starting bankroll for Final Round. September 4 Final Round Prizes: Grand Prize- $5,000 Enter between Noon and 3:30 p.m. at the Contest Booth in the Plaza de Mexico next to the Customer Information Booth or Clubhouse entryway. GOURMET FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL When: Saturday, August 18, Noon-6:00 p.m. Gourmet Food Truck Festival More than 50 Gourmet Food Trucks from San Diego/Orange County/Los Angeles Click Here to view the Truck Map Date- Saturday, August 18, 2012 Hours- Noon to 6:00 p.m., Gates open at Noon Location- Seaside Concert area, West of grandstand. Bring your appetite on Saturday, August 18, as some of the tastiest food on wheels comes to Del Mar. It's the first annual Gourmet Food Truck Festival. Enjoy a variety of some of the hottest eats in Southern California as 50 food trucks with real gourmet chefs serve their eclectic bests, all in one location, from noon to 6:00 p.m. Free admission to the Food Truck area with paid racetrack admission of $6 for adults. Children under 18 are free.
