Tiz Flirtatious Faces 4 In John C. Mabee Stakes
Pamela C. Ziebarth’s consistent Tiz Flirtatious, a California-bred daughter of Tizbud who has never been worse than third in ten starts while winning six times, will face familiar rival Lady of Shamrock and three other older fillies and mares in Sunday’s Grade II $250,000 John C. Mabee Stakes at Del Mar.
In addition to Tiz Flirtatious and Lady of Shamrock who are expected to battle for favoritism in the mile and one-eighth race over Del Mar’s infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course, the Mabee attracted My Gi Gi, Customer Base and Journaliste.
Julien Leparoux again has the mount on Tiz Flirtatious who comes into Sunday’s race from a narrow defeat by a head to the classy Marketing Mix in the Grade I Gamely Stakes in late May at Betfair Hollywood Park. Tiz Flirtatious won the Grade II Santa Ana Stakes last winter at Santa Anita.
According to allowance conditions, both Tiz Flirtatious and Lady of Shamrock will pack 121 pounds.
Lady of Shamrock, who will have Rafael Bejarano aboard as she dons blinkers, was a well-beaten third in the Gamely Stakes and then journeyed east to run second to Starformer in the New York Stakes at Belmont Park June 29. As a three-year-old, Lady of Shamrock was a two-time Grade I winner, capturing the American Oaks and Del Mar Oaks in successive efforts.
Rounding out the line-up are My Gi Gi, with Corey Nakatani; Customer Base, Mike Smith, and Argentine-bred Journaliste, with Martin Pedroza.
My Gi Gi Gi was third in the Royal Heroine Mile at Betfair Hollywood Park most recently, Customer Base won the Lucie Manet last time out , and Journaliste was sixth in the Time to Leave, a five-furlong turf sprint. All three will carry 119 pounds each.
