Kingpin Ryno Wins Del Mar Turf Sprint
Kingpin Ryno, owned by J B K Stables and trainer Joshua Litt and piloted by Victor Espinoza, dropped his nose on the line ahead of longshot La Mano Nera to win Thursday’s feature at Del Mar, a five-furlong dash over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course.
Kingpin Ryno, the lukewarm 5-2 favorite in a field of seven older horses, circled his foes into the stretch and then barely held off the late charge of La Mano Nera, piloted by Joe Talamo, to win by the narrowest of margins in :56.31 for the abbreviated distance.
A Toe by Three was third, with Sabor Amargo fourth.
Kingpin Ryno, a California-bred son of In Excess, returned $7.20, $4.20 and $3 after recording his third win in 15 starts. La Mano Nera paid $7.40 and $4.60, while A Toe by Three returned $3.60 to show.
Thursday’s attendance totaled 8,677.
