Del Mar Derby Split Into Two Divisions

For The First Time Since 1970 And For Only The Third Time In The History Of The Seaside Track, The Grade II Del Mar Derby, Championship Event Of The Summer Season For Three-Year-Olds, Will Be Presented In Two Divisions Sunday, Each Worth A Guaranteed $250,000.

The Mile And One-Eighth Grass Course Event, Presented For The 69th Time, Drew A Wealth Of Sophomore Talent. The First Division, Carded As The Sixth Of Eleven Races, Matches Ten Runners, With Two On The Also Eligible List, While The Second Section, The Ninth Race On The Program, Has The Same Set-Up, Ten In The Body Of The Contest And A Pair On The Also-Eligible List.

Primary Contenders In The First Division Are Swaps Stakes Winner Chief Havoc And Rising Legend And Gervinho, Winners Of Oceanside Stakes Divisions On Opening Day.

Opposing This Trio Will Be Say Ow, Si Sage, Outside Nashville, Procurement, Pure Loyalty, Gabriel Charles And Redwood Kitten, While Also Eligible To Draw In Are Tomís Tribute And Layton Register.

Heading The Second Division Field Is Infinite Magic, Winner Of The Grade Iii American Derby At Arlington Park In Mid-July.
