Betting Menu Will Look Familiar for 2009 Meeting
Del Mar in 2009 will offer a
betting menu that holds a mirror up to 2008 and does it all again, including
the return of the Super High Five, which made its local debut last summer and
proved a popular "nitecap" for those who like to take a swing at a
big payoff.
The Super High Five is a $1
bet that requires a player to select the first through fifth horses in correct
order on the day’s final race. The wager requires at least eight betting
interests in order to be offered and, if not hit, 100% of the pool is carried
over to the next day's program. In 2008 a two-day carryover in the pool reached
$155,430 and resulted in a single-ticket payout of a record $437,893. The
addition of the Super High Five did not preclude Del Mar's popular Superfecta
(first through fourth horses in correct order) on the day's last race and will
not do so this year either.
Del Mar offers win, place
and show wagering on all of its races and, in addition to the Super High Five
and Superfecta, the following "exotic" bets:
The $2 Pick Six (on the day’s
final six races), $2 Rolling Double (on all races but the last), $2 Quinella
(all races), $2 Parlay, $1 Pick Four (final four races), $1 Rolling Pick Three
(starting with the first race and ending with the last three), Exacta (all
races), Trifecta (races with at least six betting interests), minimum .10-cent
Superfecta (races with at least eight betting interests) and the $1 Place Pick
All.
Del Mar's 37-day season
begins on Wednesday, July 22 and runs through Wednesday, September 9. Racing
will be conducted on a Wednesday through Sunday basis throughout the meet.
