Sorrento Stakes
DEL MAR, CALIFORNIA FRIDAY, AUGUST 7, 2009
SORRENTO STAKES
Grade III, $150,000, 6-1/2 f, 2-y-o f
MICHAEL BAZE (Mi Sueno) – “Eric (trainer Eric Guillot) said just keep her in the clear and look for a good last run. I know she was a maiden going in here, but her last two works were so good I thought she might run great. She’s a runner; she’s something special. Very special. Right now, she might be the best horse I’m riding. I sure do like her.”
JOEL ROSARIO (Necessary Evil) – “She broke in a little bit at the start, but nothing too serious. We had a good trip though and she ran well. The other filly (winner Mi Sueno) just was better today. It happens.”
JOE TALAMO (Well Deserved) – “David (trainer David Hofmans) said send her away from there and I did. She made an easy lead and was running easy. A :45 (half was :45.07) on this track is just cruisin’, and she made the turn for home in good shape. She just got a little tired at the end, but she ran a good, good race. She’s going to be a nice one in the future.”
ERIC GUILLOT (Mi Sueno) -- “She’s really not a sprinter, but she beat them at their own game today. She’s all legs. She’s a beautiful filly. I believed all along that she could be a legitimate filly among the juveniles. I don’t know yet if she’ll run in the [Darley] Debutante or the Oak Leaf. We’ll see how she comes out of the race.”
(Mi Sueno translates from the Spanish as “my sleep.”)
