Real Good Deal Stakes
DEL MAR, CALIFORNIA FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 2013
JULIEN LEPAROUX (U’narack, winner) – “I’ve worked him now the last two or three times and he’s been feeling good. Jerry (Hollendorfer, trainer) told me to not be too far off the pace. He said if he makes the lead, that’s fine. It worked out well. We had a perfect trip and he quickened very well at the finish.”
MIKE SMITH (Ambitious Brew, second) – “He went straight up on me on parade (in the post parade) and I was afraid he was going to go on his back, so I had to take the weight off him and I jumped off. Then when he got in the gate he was all aggressive. I had to fight with him and he was up closer than I wanted. But all things considered, a good race for him. He’s a nice colt.”
GARY STEVENS (Raised a Secret, third) – “I got banged away from there, but other than that the trip was fine. He just hit a wall at the end.”
COREY NAKATANI (Tiz a Minister, fifth) – “I just had to make up too much ground. It’s his style. He came from far back and we weren’t beaten all that much.”
JERRY HOLLENDORFER (U’narack, winner) – “He ran a real nice race because he was able to find a seam and get out so he wasn’t stuck down inside. It was a really good race for him. We haven’t thought of a next race for him yet. We pointed for this race for Cal-breds for $200,000. We’ll just look at things and make up our minds on the next one.”
On Omega Star, who finished fourth for Hollendorfer: “He got away OK but he didn’t have much of a chance to get away from the rail.”
MARTIN JONES (Ambitious Brew, second) – “He ran a great race. I’m really proud of him. He never got a breather; that might have cost him at the end. The winner ran a really good race. You have to give him credit.”
