Generous Portion Stakes

DEL MAR, CALIFORNIA                                                                                                             SEPTEMBER 2, 2009

GENEROUS PORTION STAKES

$100,000, 2-y-o, Cal-bred fillies, 6 F

RAFAEL BEJARANO (Camille C) – “No special instructions for me. They just said find a spot where you’re comfortable. She’s a filly that you can do a lot of things with. When the horse next to me (High Five Gal) broke slow, I just let my horse go. She went to the front and ran well. That’s pretty much all there was to it.

“I stopped wearing my (protective) mask after two days back – Friday and Saturday. I might wear it again on occasion, but I don’t think I need it so much. It’s too hot now for it anyway.”

(Bejarano returned to riding at Del Mar last Friday, the 28th day of the meeting after being injured in a racing spill on opening day of the meet, July 22.)

VICTOR ESPINOZA (Whispering Hush) – “She ran good. She just wants more ground. There just wasn’t enough race for her today.”

JOE TALAMO (Royalty Gone Wild) – “She laid up there where we wanted her and ran real well. She did everything we wanted her to do. From breaking her maiden to running like this in a stake, she did great.”

MARCELO POLANCO (Camille C) --  “We’ve been pointing for this race. We were fourth in the Sorrento but she was the only Cal-bred in the field so she did pretty well. She’s been training very well here. She has speed, but we weren’t thinking about going to the front. I left everything up to Rafael [Bejarano]. It didn’t look like anyone wanted to go to the lead, so it just worked out that way.”
