Breeders Cup 2009 inches closerAs things start getting turned up a notch, I am just wondering how cappers on this board approach the wagering. Do you stick with what works for the everyday normal racing, or do you toss those strategies and re-work your approach? Is a horse a horse and just a horse, or are the BC fields unique enough in nature to cause you to do some things, or everything, differently?

Re: Breeders Cup 2009 inches closerI'm not a whale or much of a serial bettor. Primarily win, EX, and doubles.
On BC day, I expect to catch huge overlays. I'm much more likely to play a couple of 20-1 shots to win than take a low-priced favorite in a large field. I believe a 5/2 favorite in a talented field is quite different than a 5/2 shot in a group of claimers. By the same token, a 20-1 shot in a BC race has a much better chance than your typical 20-1 horse. I hope that makes sense. All it takes is to hit one of these inevitable longshots and you're set for the day. I think the shortest odds I ever took in a BC race was Invasor at (IIRC) 8-1. Re: Breeders Cup 2009 inches closer
I treat the Breeders' Cup the same way I do $2,700 platers at GoldenGatebytheBay on Wednesdays. I chat with the stewards, talk to my fellow jocks, check and see if Sadler, Dutrow and Mullins are still using juices, and then I scan the vet's list to make sure. Vince P Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Re: Breeders Cup 2009 inches closerI use the exact same handicapping methods for the BC
Check jockey agents, jockey agent cup sizes, jockey cup sizes. I also check to see if the horse is wearing a mouthpiece and the cup to make a selection. Of course, I would only play that track if it were HANA approved and the handling was satisfactory.Certified non player
Re: Breeders Cup 2009 inches closeri just keep coming close on the p6/7 on bc day. last year i played a $72.00 ticket had 5 of 6 twice, but changed my mind at the last second on it or woulda had 6 which paid $55k. had bafferts horse singled in the srint but changed it and singled the horse who ran 3rd in the juvy instead DAAAAM. but i still wish somebody woulda cut tiznows nose off one year and cut his head off the other year, that neck and nose cost me close to a million dollars.

How does that old saying go......Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice.........LOL. Beware of any of his babies on this artificial stuff, seems like they've always got a shot. And remember...Things work out best when you make the best of the way things work out.
Re: Breeders Cup 2009 inches closerI definitely change multiple aspects of my betting during the B.C.:
1) I'm generally a $10 bettor a race, but up that considerably for each B.C. race. 2) I'm not really a P-6 player(I will on occasion play the place pick-all), but I play the Pick 6 and on this year both days. 3) Like Doug pointed out, there is super value on longshots during the championships. Horses that should be 10-1 are overlooked and will go off 20-30 to one. I seem to always catch at least one of them to cover my other losses. 4) Following the B.C.'s from the 1st year, I can attest that MOST of the years, not all, have a severe bias going. I attribute that to management's desire to really have the course's play fast, regardless of the weather or normal track conditions. People just don't want to see slow race times during the B.C. Watch early for an inside or outside or front running bias.
Re: Breeders Cup 2009 inches closerI typically can find bunches of auto-tosses on the everyday card, but when it comes to BC day, IMO, there are almost no toss-outs. It's just a difficult day for me to handicap.
