Re: Christmas MiracleKnow there are extenuating circumstances where a pet might escape without identification, and don’t mean to be harsh, but personally feel 99.9% of these charming people that would place their dog outside without a collar and identification are the same idiots that need to be told by the Weather Channel on winter mornings to dress their kids warmly for the bus stop, that need the nanny mayor of New York City to tell them what size soda pop they need to be drinking; that need – STOP lol..

Re: Christmas Miracle
Go ahead, be harsh, that's what it takes. The only times my dogs ever had their collars off with the tags on them were at the groomers, and when being shown at a dog show (then the show collar & lead was on, attached to my or the handler's hand). Gates can open in a strong wind, gates can be inadvertently left ajar, people can open car doors w/out making allowances for a dog leaping out, small dogs can jump out of arms if being carried...the list goes on.Chipping is good, visible tags are better insurance. Some people can't afford chipping but they certainly can afford a collar & a tag. If they can't afford that then they can't afford to feed a dog. Re: Christmas MiracleNot related to this ebay seller in any way, but have ordered from them several times - good quality tags, practically free overnight shipping, and $2 less than what you’d spend in the $5 token machine at Petco or WalMart… particularly like the slide on tags as a back-up and in addition to the dangling tag (in case it were to detach accidentally)… the metal is soft enough to bend to the cure of the animal’s collar..
http://myworld.ebay.com/craftytagz?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 History/background Our business started with one of our kitties who refused to wear an ID tag. Tinkerbell would wear a collar but no tag. When I couldn't find a collar that would accept a tag that slid on, I decided to make one myself. And like they say, the rest is history!! We are working on expanding to have displays in vet hospitals, pet boutiques and grooming establishments. We love to help other small businesses!
Re: Christmas MiracleJusr got new collars & tags for my cats. One manages to get her collar off without my effort. Indoor cats at all times, but you never know, I have a contractor & his guys in and out of here a lot, since I manage to think up projects way too often. They always leave the doors & gates unlatched. I used to get on their case bad about leaving the gates open when I still had my dog (passed awat last month). After they were done painting my house I deducted $50 from the bill - fining them for being careless with the gates. Great contractor but doesn't know from gates....
They left the overhead garage door up and the man-door open. The dog did wander out, poor deaf old thing. Luckily he was found wandering the street less than a block away. I told the contractor that is he lost my dog I'd have to kill him. Same for the landscaper (who let the dog get out once). "And Afleet Alex just ran right by Giacomo like he was standing still!"

Re: Christmas MiracleI hate it when I don't forward chain letter and I die the next day!
Re: Bandit - four-leggedthat's amazing he survived 13 years but guess not unexpected, las vegas has an unreal feral cat population and volunteers caretake the colonies - was at Lied Shelter once on a round-up "spay and neuter" day have never seen so many angry hissing spitting cats in cages all at one time in a big holding area, did i say how angry those feral cats were LOL?? the smell was uh, aromatic to say the least ...
http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/government/its-now-ok-take-care-feral-cat-colonies-las-vegas ... Williams estimates there are 450 colonies in Southern Nevada, including about 100 in Las Vegas. "When we go in to help one of these colony caretakers, our first goal is to get every cat spayed and neutered, get them completely out of the kitten business," Williams said.... and, as time goes by, the numbers drop. It just works." The previous system in Las Vegas required caretakers not only to register with animal control but also to provide front and profile photos of individual cats. The animal control aspect made caretakers wary of participating, and the notion of getting feral cats to hold still for photos was impractical. Under the new system, caretakers can submit descriptions of the cats. Although the new system is expected to be easier to maintain, it still includes responsibilities for caretakers. "You can't just have a colony of cats," Fermanich said. "You are agreeing to feed them. You are going to agree to check their health. You are going to agree to take them to the veterinarian."
Re: Christmas MiracleOur Feral cat Coalition finally gave up. They were all volunteers and exhausted. As far as I know no group has taken it's place<sigh>.
They did get a lot of feral cats "out of the kitten business" (I like that phrase) but to be truly effective it has to be an ongoing effort as clueless people keep letting their unfixed cats out and about. "And Afleet Alex just ran right by Giacomo like he was standing still!"
