Our most fervent Christmas wish is not going to come true, I fear.

Can I axe a question and it's not about tubes getting out of the toothpaste - what happens if the micro-chip company/database manager goes out of business, are the chips just deactivated? and what if there's a change of ownership in the animal at some point, how do you change contact information? is there like a yearly maintenance fee for the chip? What is the animal passes, do you tell the chip company to take them out of the database??

Strange -- did the link again and it seems to work. There was click-through the first time I tried.

Read the above link..the closed parentheses in "animal" is not getting linked..must be something with the forum..like "i m g" can't be linked..

Did the same thing to me. Wiki poltergeists?

There was a piece on last night's NBC nightly news about a stolen dog that was returned to its 7-year-old. A woman bought it to get itt away from the thief and took it to vet to have chip scanned. Questionable link on that one, too.

No tags on. I don't understand why people take a dog's tags off - assuming it's wearing some - just because it's in the house or at home. WTF good does it do if the dog scampers out the front door? Or wanders out through an unlocked yard gate? In areas where snowfall can make some pretty high drifts dogs can just walk on the drifts and right on over a fence. Happened all the time in Colorado Springs.

Help Dennis Lehane find his lost dog, appear in his next book

By Carolyn Kellogg

December 26, 2012, 10:58 a.m.

Dennis Lehane's dog has gone missing, and he's taken to Facebook in an effort to find her. In return for bringing Tessa back to Lehane and his family, he's offering a reward: He'll name a character in his next book for the person who finds the dog.

Tessa is a beagle that went missing Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, Lehane posted this on his Facebook page: "[O]ur recent and beloved rescue dog, Tessa, jumped the fence in Brookline and has been roaming through the wilds of Coolidge Corner for the last 24 hours. It's possible she's staying in some good Samaritan's home right now or has tucked herself away on a porch. But if anyone sees her or knows of her whereabouts, please reach out to this page. Here's a picture of her. She's smart, fast, and immeasurably sweet. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She's micro-chipped, but her tags were off when she was let out into the yard. Naming of character in the next book for anyone who gets her back to us! (No, really!) Again--Tessa, black-and-tan Beagle, 24 hours on the lam, sweet as all hell. Thank you!"

Lehane is a bestselling author whose books include the Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro mystery series, "Mystic River," "Gone Baby Gone" and "Shutter Island." His latest novel, the 1920s gangster story "Live By Night," was published in October. The person who finds his dog could wind up being almost anyone -- a police captain, prison guard, bootlegger, small-time hood or sweet grandmother.

As of Wednesday, Tessa had not yet been found. Lehane told the Boston Globe, “Last unsubstantiated sighting had her heading toward Cambridge. Big Harvard fan, our Tessa.”

Found it on CNN -- after the commercial, of course. Better yet, they nabbed the dognapper.
