He did have some trouble, but lost by 10+ lengths.

OK..we'll give him one more chance to run a good race before we 'puteminacan'..

There was an excellent documentary by Ken Burns on PBS awhile back, on Probition. Very enlightening. Described in detail how the Mafia really got its start, providing en masse what Prohibition was trying to stop.

Stringent gun laws would probably just be another nightmare.

Did you know that the police in England don't carry guns?

I have three comments to your post.

1. Comparing a law on a form of gun control woud be different than the prohibition laws, like comparing apples and oranges as they say. I say this because prohibition laws and similar laws are laws prohibiting "vices" and I don't think that guns would be considered a "vice" because quite frankly not that many people want a gun. On the other hand, the mafia made their money selling liquor, prostitution, gambling etc or things considered "vices." Vices are things that millions or even billions of people want but can't get legally. Las Vegas had to be the world's most visited city before Indian gaming

2. I would say that we already have a ban on many weapons, including items such as RPG's, bazookas, etc. yet there is no large scale black market for these items because quite frankly, most people, in our world don't want them or need them.

3. The gun control advocates are not talking about stringent gun laws, but instead, sensible gun laws. No one, except the military, has a need for semi automatic weapons. Let's ban these weapons, same as we do RPG's bazookas etc. You want a sporting pistol or rifle or shotgun? OK, As long as you're a sane, rational adult, that has no criminal history or mental derangement history, and who licenses the weapon and gets mandatory training on a periodic basis, fine.

What do you think?

I see your points, and I agree with them.

Hey Lester, we have laws against meth and heroine. That seems to have worked out well hasn't it.

There are over 20,000 laws and regulations on 2nd Amendment rights already. Imagine if there were that many on the 1st Amendment - you wouldn't be able to speak at all.

It's still true that only the honest law-abiding people will follow the rules and the criminals will not. The government just wants a list of everyone who has a gun, it makes it easier when it's time to go around and collect them all. Registration made it easy for the Japanese when they invaded the Philippines, they just went to the court house and got a list of gun owners and collected the guns, and if not they just shot every one in the house.
Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.
