Maybe will be a key player in the Derby prep races in 2013.

Nice patient ride by Julien Leparoux.

Agree. I went up there to get a couple friends their licenses. Both disappeared during the post parade of this race, but when they came back I told him there were a couple horses in here who look just like the good horses look ( The Tapit and Mizzen Mast who went 1-2). They both ran to their looks and and betting action. I would not be surprised in the SA Derby that these two hook up down the lane again. I have been wondering where the nice prospects in CA have been, the winner looks like any kind, big scopey colt.

In the horse show world, it's widely used to describe a horse's jumping ability. Don't think I've heard it used to describe a race horse before.

A horse with scope is one with a long "reach" or stride. Scopey horses tend to be the taller, longer bodied horses as opposed to the stocky and heavily muscled. Obviously, a long strided horse can cover more ground, and, as Mary said, can often jump well. It tends to be a sign of a horse that can run longer distances, although you never know for sure. :D

If you Google "Keeneland" "scope" "colt", pretty much any horse that sold for a noteworthy price will be listed as having "scope". It's used a lot.

Having just concluded my 12th year at HP. There have been precious few horses where the first time I saw them I felt the HOLY MOLY WOW factor.

Ghostzapper

Officer

Zenyatta

I recently experienced that for the 4th time when Violence won the CashCall Futurity. I think if he stays sound he has a chance to become one of the all time greats!

I could talk about how he's built. Might be the longest horse I've ever seen.

I could talk about the way he won going two turns for the first time. He seemed completely clueless to me and yet still toyed with the field. Forget about the gallop out which was serious.

I could talk about the way he's bred.

What's hard to talk about is just the way he made me feel.

Been with you guys quite sometime here. Never really took a stand. Might never again.

Here goes.

Violence will not only win the Derby. He'll be our first Triple Crown winner since 1978.

Victor J Stauffer 10:40pm Tues. Dec. 25th 2012.
