Rosario quick to introduce himself

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Any doubts about whether Joel Rosario would have a major impact on the local jockey colony riding regularly here for the first time this winter were quickly erased opening weekend after he posted hat tricks on each of the first two cards of the 2012-13 session.

Rosario, 27, moved his tack to the East Coast from Southern California this past summer and had a successful stay in New York, finishing fourth in the standings at Saratoga and third during Belmont Park’s fall meeting. Rosario is not a total stranger to Gulfstream, having ridden Final Mesa to victory for Wesley Ward in the Grade 3 Old Hat in January 2011.

“I’m very happy to get off to a fast start,” said Rosario, who won two of the seven Claiming Crown races on Saturday’s card. “I decided first to try New York and then down here to Florida because I felt there were more opportunities on the East Coast. And it also puts me a lot closer to my family, who are in the Dominican Republic, than when I was riding in California.”

Rosario said part of his decision to come to south Florida for the winter also was weather-related.

“I have a lot of trainers down here I’ve been riding for in New York who race here during the winter,” said Rosario, whose engagements are being handled by veteran agent Ron Anderson. “And it’s also too cold up in New York during the winter. I love this weather. I love Florida.”

Someone should tell Gino of TVG that Joel is not from California and is not the "California Kid." Vic more appropriately
calls him the "Dominican Dandy" when he rides here in So. Cal. Just a geography lesson for Gino, the hotshot know
nothing handicapper of TVG. Joins a long laundry list of TVG bustouts.

Gino should get his facts straight as hes too overyhped on that network and mediocre.

Oh I wonder how jocks like John Velazquez, Javier Castellano and Ramon Dominguez feel about Joel's presence?

Another good jock in a great colony, that's what they think. The Gulfstream colony isn't that strong. Half of the NY riders are in Aqueduct and only a few at Gulfstream, John V and Castellano won't be riding the amount that Joel will.

Dido, Hollywood!

I remember Joel came back one day to ride in So Cal. Joel won a stakes race I believe on Dullahan.Gino then goes on the air, Joel is a California guy, he say's he loves California so he's a California guy. Well, Gino now he says he loves Gulfstream and the east. The main reason is he's much close to his family.

I will always know that Ramon is the best. Joel will get close to him because of his agent. At the end of the day, it's 98% horse 2% jockey.

You could put Luis Saez on the horses Joel has won at Gulfstream and it would be the same results. I believe out of his 6 winners the highest priced horse has been $7.00

Why can't one say that about every horse Ramon rides? Also, are you saying that the leading jockey in the Country has a bad agent?

Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.

Yes, Ramon has a good agent but Ramon doesn't ride 1st call for any elite trainer. Ramon's agent ain't Ron Anderson, no one is. Ramon definitely needs the horse just like any other jockey. Ramon makes less mistakes and puts his horse in the best chance to win more than any other jock out there. It's up to the horse at that point.

I wonder how many other graduates of the UCLA Anderson School of Management spell "ditto" as "dido"?
