Drop it to 25 cents, everyone on the planet will play it. Heaven help the other pools.
So big deal, one win a couple of grand for a bet, Now tell the truth, can you use a couple of grand, I say hell yes.
Remember getting the odds on your side, will make you a winner overall

Earth to Lester. Dropping the bet denomination does not improve your odds. If we flipped a coin and bet a dollar on the outcome would your odds of winning be better if we only bet 25 cents? It is still a 50/50 proposition regardless of the size of the bet. With the P-6 you still have the nearly 25% takeout which does not go down if the bet amount is reduced. The only way to get the odds on your side are with a carryover because the amount of the carryover can sometimes exceed the takeout on the new money bet. So if you truly want to get the odds on your side you should quit lobbying for the $.25 P-6. I have heard rumblings that there might be an experiment to pay the winners of the P-6 a 25% bonus provided that they make their bet at the track.

Andy
As we all know, I am not a pick six player, I play the pick 5
All I know is this, the pool is smaller and people are passing, now I am talking about the average player are going some where else.
Stein and Jay P, promote it, but it' not going anywhere.
The pool need help.
Now if you play the pick 6, what suggestions do you have. I am open to all ideas.

My suggestion is to leave it alone! The P-6 is the last bet where a bettor can dream to hit it big. The pool doesn't need help and it doesn't need the average player that you speak of. The average player can play $.50 P-4s, P-5s, and $.10 superfectas.

How about getting rid of the early pick 4?

We're asked from time to time why Del Mar doesn't offer one. To do so really seems pointless.

Mary, I can understand your point right to the letter. The Pick 6 goes to the dreamers or the people that really can afford the bet. Today, it paid 275 G, that goes to a special type of breed of player that can afford to lay down a ton of money. I guess I like to spread it around, I have a little Hury Long in me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huey_LongI just play the Pick 5 and let the pick 6 players figure it out for themselves.

Lester I am all for a 25 cent pick six. For $2 I cannot accurately cover the 12-1 shots that keep winning. More wins for everyone. As I have always said show me an unhappy winner,I show you an idiot.

Quite a few people have commented that the P6 is dying and here's one way to revive it.
Pick 6 Bonus Program for Santa Anita.
The goal is to get the Pick 6 pools to a minimum of 200k on weekdays and 300k on weekends. This could do it if it is promoted correctly.
A Pick 6 Bonus will be paid to anyone hitting all six at Santa Anita or through XpressBet. The bonus will only apply to six winners with no bonus paid to the consolations. The bonus will only be paid on non carryover days.
The on track bonus payout at Santa Anita should be 20% to 25%.
The bonus payout through XpressBet should be 15% or 20%.
My guess is that the promotion will work and at 200k in handle here’s how the deal breaks down.
With a pool of 200k you have $152,640 after the takeout of 23.68%. The $152,640 is divided with 70% going to winners with six and 30% going to consolations. Of the $106,848 subject to the bonus my guess is that for various reasons about one third of the $106,848 will actually be paid in bonuses because not everyone will buy a ticket at Santa Anita or through XpressBet. The bonus payouts will be paid by Santa Anita, XpressBet, and the TOC.
If it works it will be well worth the money paid in bonuses.
My guess is that there would have to be two signers to get it right. The bonus would probably have to be paid as prize money otherwise you get into withholding at 5k. If the math is wrong please correct.
