Eisenhower? (Although he was a 5-star general.)

I meant to capitalize the "p" in pentagon.

I'm passing this on because it worked for me today.
A doctor on TV said that in order to have inner peace in our lives after this election, we should always finish things that we start.
Since we all could use more calm in our lives, I looked around my house to find things I'd started and hadn't finished. I finished a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of my Valiuminun scriptins, an a box a choclutz.
Yu has no idr how fablus I feel rite now.
Sned this to all ur frenz who need inner piss. An telum u luvum.

Hostess Bakery plants shut down Friday the result of a union strike idling some 18,000 workers.
The Obama administration will hire most all of these displaced employees.
The State Department will hire the Twinkies, the Secret Service the Ho Hos, the generals will sleep with the Cupcakes and all the Ding Dongs are going to Congress.
Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.

But who on earth will hire the useless CEOs? http://www.latimes.com/features/food/da ... 8929.storyThough most of the early coverage of the collapse of the Twinkie Empire focused on the immediate story of the role of the workers’ union in bringing about the bankruptcy of Hostess, it now seems there may have been more to the situation.
My colleague Michael Hiltzik dug through the corporation’s bankruptcy filings and in a Business section analysis Sunday argued that the collapse of the snack food empire was more the result of long-term incompetency by management.
“Let's get a few things clear," he wrote. "Hostess didn't fail for any of the reasons you've been fed. It didn't fail because Americans demanded more healthful food than its Twinkies and Ho-Hos snack cakes. It didn't fail because its unions wanted it to die.
“It failed because the people that ran it had no idea what they were doing. Every other excuse is just an attempt by the guilty to blame someone else.”

The fact that the unions demanded separate loading crews and truck drivers for the Wonder Bread side and the cupcake side didn't help. These crews were not allowed to help each other in any circumstance.

Good article and right on. I see it all too often. Companies being run by people with no knowledge of the company they are running. They are called investment bankers and accountants. They make money but don't make anything worthwhile. Of course the investment bankers and accoutants who know nothing about the company of which they are in charge are not to blame, but it's the workers who, in many cases, were the main reason for the company success who have now become greedy and caused the company failure. If you believe that, then I've got a war in Iraq I would like to sell you. Anyway this is a joke thread so here goes: What do you call a 250 pound Notre Dame cheerlearder? Anorexic.

The moron who wrote this article really didn't do much research. Par for the course for the LA Times.

We must be living in a parallel universe like that old Star Trek episode where Spock has a goatee and Captain Kirk is a raving lunatic. Or like Bradbury writes about paper books are burned instead of read.
And where business executives are not rewarded for competently operating a business, but instead are given bonuses for running a company into the ground.
"The bill approved in Congress to avert the so-called fiscal cliff would bring the first major tax increase on high earners in 20 years."
