Hate Seeing This Crap

Postby Pathagan » Sun Oct 14, 2012 4:19 pm

11-year-old Concert Goer, coming off a 38-month layoff for Gary Eickerman (and owned by his wife), broke down in the 11th race today at the Big Fresno Fair.

When last seen, the John Mabee homebred was vanned off at Ferndale in August of 2009. He had 4 works since June in leading up to today's race

Shame on the connections and the vet for clearing him to run.

pat

I with you all the way, however, most owners look at a horse as a piece of meat, nothing else or hay burners.

I always said, a specific percentage of the take out must go to horses if the owner wants to retire it.

Connections are sick and are not doing right by the horse. Watch the PETA people get a hold of this.

MOST owners actually care about their horses. SOME owners look at them as an investment and nothing more. MANY are just ignorant and the horses pay. I have dealt with many more of the later in this business than what you are describing. 9 time out of 10 the ones that you are talking about are the rich owners who don't need the money anyway.
BTW, a percentage of purse money does go to CARMA (a retirement fund), but they are incredibly hard to get grants from. I helped write a grant last year for a retirement facility that placed 40 horses the previous year and they got $2,500.

Ouch...I just hope the NY Times doesn't read this forum.

You might also notice he was coming off of a 10-month layoff before that last start in 2009! The connections have owned this guy over the entire period. Since the horse is not in my stable mail I didn't know he was in until I was watching the post parade on TVG.......I almost fell off the couch. Look, I know Concert Goer's sire, Event of the Year, like a lot of Slew's, could be a little hot so who knows maybe Concert Goer wasn't the type to be a pet but there are other things he could have done other than this. The connections should at the very least have their licenses revoked.

Well, Eickerman got fined by the Hollywood Park stewards for an overage.

No. Anything pertaining to that horse would have been handled during Fresno or moved to Golden Gate. Bute overages are ususally detected and dealt with within a week.
