HP opening day thoughts

Postby Southieboy » Thu Nov 08, 2012 4:20 pm

pretty much the same as others have posted here about HP but a little more detail to add here

* appears TVG have kicked Kurt Hoover off the simulcast feed (via DRF Privman)
* very depressing pool sizes today at HP most noticably the WPS pools. Highest Win pool today was $127k - that is horrific for a major track even when its the last race of a card. I don't recall many days at SA the Win pool being that low for the day's high. I'll still say the total handle will be almost 5 million.

Also incorrect order of finish posted on the TV monitors twice today and no fractions for most of the races in running. Being nearly 3000 miles away and not on site I don't have the advantage of seeing the entire plant, but noticed they have crossed off the area after the 1 1/4M start for the spectators and did not see one improvement other that a few TVG signs on the backstretch. I seriously wonder if this is finally the end.

Hard to imagine after all these years its over. No Friday nights this fall is not going to help them, at least that had a small but vibrant crowd near the finish line. It was a dreary rainy day, it had to depressing out there. But like I have said, I like it there and hope it sticks around. Is it really any more "electric" at Aqueduct on a Thursday or even Churchill on a weekday at the fall meet. I think it is what it is, after the Breeders Cup and before the bigger money tracks come like Gulfstream, Winter Santa Anita, Oaklawn there is just a drop off in buzz about racing.

A rare win for Linda Mikus - in a horsemen's race, no less.

I see fans by the dozens flocked to HP opening day. 1,894 according to the paper. Hope it wasn't too crowded. Followed by 1,648 pouring in to HP on Friday.
I used to be indecisive; now, I'm not so sure.
