This should make way for Gene Simmons or Bret Michaels to take over.

If I had to point to one thing that did Verge in, it would be the Doug O'Neill bobblehead. The "Time Conway Jr. Stakes" and the "Rodeo Drive Stakes" were ridiculously named, but that bobblehead was beyond stupid.

Mark Verge, hired to oversee Santa Anita Park as chief executive officer in March, has stepped down, according to Mike Willman, the track's director of publicity.

Willman said Nov. 9 that he was informed of Verge's decision during a meeting of Santa Anita department heads a day earlier.

"He's gone," Willman said.

This would be a perfect time for Santa Anita to step up to the plate and supply the jolt that California racing needs: HIRE LESTER AS CEO

Considering Santa Anita's CEO track record, he would be an improvement..as long as Gene Simmons declines the job..

Also leaving are a number of people hired by Verge, including Jimmy Dunne, who was named Santa Anita’s Chief Creative Officer and wrote a song, “My California,” that was played daily and widely panned by anyone who heard it. Cedd Moses, a coktail impresario in the Los Angeles area brought on as beverage consultant, is also leaving, as is media consultant Damien Lewis, food and beverage manager Richard Davis, and group events consultant Angie Davis.

George Haines, the track’s longtime general manager, is expected to run Santa Anita for the near term.

By our count, Verge is the 10th executive hired to run Santa Anita since purchasing the track in 1998.
