Prince was safe (A series changer)?

Postby The Bart » Fri Oct 26, 2012 5:42 am

I've got no skin in this series. The winner of this Tigers v. Giants series, has me as buzzed as the winner of a Poland v. Hungary soccer match.

Yet, it's baseball, and baseball I always watch with interest, I just don't care who wins this one.

That being said, Prince was safe at home last night. Did you think Posey was going to stand in front of that train? NOT!! Prince went past the living room and into the back bedroom of home before Posey applied his feable Matador tag. Toro won that encounter, yet the ump cried "ole!" much to the Tigers dismay.

As for Posey, maybe he should consider replacing the first vowel in his name with one a little further down the alphabetical scale. :P

Safe? Guess you didn't watch the replay they showed 100 times over and over during game. He was clearly out. Horrible base running, horrible call by 3rd base coach. Even in Little League the rule is simple NEVER MAKE THE 1st OUT AT HOME PLATE. If prince knew how the run the bases he would not have been running straight down the base line as you are tought NOT to do in Tee Ball. If he slides to the OUTSIDE of home plate he is safe by country mile. As for the 3rd base coach sending a 5' 7" 300lber home on a ball to left should be reason enough to be working on the resume on today's off day.

Missing in all the talk of safe or out is the UN REAL play Scutaro made. 2nd baseman backing up relay form left field is not a play you see everyday.

"I think Gene just got a little overaggressive," Leyland said.

Scutaro, in the middle of every big play for the Giants this month, dashed across the diamond, caught Blanco's relay and unleashed a strong throw to the plate. All-Star catcher Buster Posey made a swipe tag to Fielder's backside, just as the Tigers' star slid home. Umpire Dan Iassogna had a clear look and made a demonstrative call -- out!

Fielder immediately popped up from his slide and pleaded his case with two hands, saying he didn't feel the tag. Leyland rushed out and pointed to the plate. At second base, Young yelled, "No!"

But even if there was replay review, it wouldn't have helped the Tigers. Because TV replays showed Iassogna, working his first plate job in a World Series, got it right.

His lead foot missed home plate. Like Goose said if he slides to the outside or even one foot to the right he is safe easily. The amazing part of the whole play is that the ump got it right.

I watched, it was an out. And I was wanting him to be safe.
