I just paid $3.17 for a gallon of Ethyl at , here in Shelbyville (KY).

Not sure why it's so high in California.

The only thing I can think of is that gas stations are trying to catch up with the take-out at California racetracks

Chevron by my office was $4.19 last Friday and today it is $4.75.
I paid for the fill up as I am hearing many independents, including , are not able to get gas.
If anyone needs a lift to the track from OC, its $20.00, each way(plus tiip). Hey, I am just jumping on the bandwagon.

A refinery is having problems and they don't have a back-up because of Cal's extra requirements for pollution chemicals..........(which are known carcenogens...).

"Perfect Storm"

That development emerged after a series of events conspired to strain supplies, causing gasoline inventories in the West Coast region to fall this week to their third-lowest level of the past two decades, on a seasonal basis, government data showed.

Earlier this summer, Chevron Corp's Richmond, California, refinery was shut down after a fire, while a Chevron pipeline that carries crude oil from the state's Central Valley to refineries in the San Francisco Bay area has been closed since mid-September.

More recently, Phillips 66 had shut two plants to conduct planned maintenance, and then a power outage at Exxon Mobil Corp's Torrance, California refinery struck on Monday, disrupting operations for days.

In addition, California refineries have already dropped production in anticipation of switching over to a seasonal "winter blend" of gasoline next month.

But on Friday, Exxon said the Torrance plant had resumed operations, helping ease supply fears.

What's irritating around here is vegas will bump their prices just because Cal tourists/players are used to paying it.
Seems like only and maybe ARCO stations are the only judge of 'real' prices here.
