Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to VancouverOnly O'Neill and Troy Taylor would throw him a crumb over here. You could say he had his fifteen minutes of fame and
now everything is back to normalcy.
Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to Vancouver
Never mind the 2 Stakes wins for Cecil aboard Quiet Oasis (including the Grade 2 Royal Heroine yesterday)? He's much better than most riders in the room down here - it's an absolute shame that he's not getting more quality mounts.
Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to VancouverHe should try switching agents before bailing. I think he's taking the easy way out. He'll be riding a lot of $2500
claiming races at Hastings Park. Doubt if Southern California trainers will embrace him if the comes back to SA in the fall.
Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to VancouverI heard him in an interview on the radio. He is not married , has no children, no ties to the circuit out here.
He acting like any other jockey, to ride and make money.
Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to Vancouver
He probably was out of his comfort zone riding one or two races a day. At least he's already established himself at Hastings Park and will ride a full compliment of horses there.
Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to VancouverI've read that he likes Vancouver and he has friends and a girlfriend there. Pretty normal for him to want to go home.

Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to Vancouver
Hastings' quality is better than what most people think. Certainly a ton better than Emerald. Don't forget, Gutz spent one winter riding at Golden Gate Fields (and tore it up there) before VISA problems sent him back north.
Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to VancouverI remember when Jason Lumpkins tore it up also in Northern California.
a string of horses from Canada to Northern California and his stable rider, David Wilson, tore it up also. They left after the string of horses were claimed by Hollendorfer and Morey. Seems like Baze and Alvarado are the only constants there anymore.
Re: Mario Gutierrez Heading Back to Vancouver
It must make you think you actually know him personally.
