Who wins this Santa Maria place photo?

You tell me. I know what the stewards said ... but it's not what I see. FYI had an interest in the outcome with a rather large (for me) exacta Ellafitz --> Miss Mittagong exacta.

(As for the stewards they claim a dead-heat. I suppose they have a higher resolution view, but I see a winner of the photo ....... )

The 3 has a slight head in front of the 7...

I loaded the pic into iphoto and zoomed-in to the max - the 3 got 2nd, the 7 third.
Thank God for the Federal Reserve. You can't have big government or big wars without them.

that is an outrage. is this the stewards fault or placing judges? someone needs to lose their job over this.

Agree 100%. And what I don't understand is that they looked at this photo "forever" (at least it seemed that way for me as I waited for the photo sign to come down) and everyone I have asked to comment on who was second clearly sees the #3 Miss Mittagong. I also have to believe a higher resolution view of the photo would show it even more clearly the #3 second. But what do I know. And how do we question whomever made the final call? Besides the exacta paying at least $13 with her second alone (I did get $5.80 thanks to the deadheat) I also had a WPS on her at 19-1 so it mattered ... to me.

I was watching the race on Cal Racing.com and it looked to me as if the 3 got her nose in front of the 7's nose at the wire. The photo proves it. You may want to send the photo to the local Arcadia paper and the LA Times etc. It's one thing to miss a call in a sporting event while the action is going. But to miss the right call with the benefit of a photo?

Thanks for the suggestion as I e-mailed Bill Dwyre of the LA Times who kindly responded today. He felt the right call was made as it was just too close to call. Can't say I agree, but it was nice to receive a response. I suppose the best thing would be to see a high resolution print, but given it's done and over not sure it would even matter at this point.

i have seen the wrong horse put up on several occasions. once at hollywood park shoemaker won on a horse by a head and they put the other horse up, the next day they admitted that they made a mistake, didnt help me though i had shoe. worst i ever saw was at trinity meadows horse wins by a long neck they put the other horses number up. they show the photo picture and in the picture it shows a grey horse with green solks ran 2nd, problem was the actual horse that ran was a chestnut with black silks. my buddy and i had the winner who was 40to1. he storms up to the stewards office and starts yelling at them and gets arrested, i was riding with him they take him to jail and i had to figure out how to get home 70 miles away. he sued the track over it and won.

Wasn't it the Grade 1 Ramona at Del Mar, several years back, when they announced a triple dead heat for the win, even though Golden Apples was obviously a head back of the top 2 in third place?

I guess the photo was partially obscured or something, so that's why they made it a triple dead heat. I think Vince P made a call up to the Stewards room..

I've actually sat in the officials/head judge's room at an unnamed track in Chicago.I was amazed how clear their HD photo finish picture was from several angles. IMHO Santa Anita's equipment seems outdated and needs to upgrade asap. Umm isn't the BC 8 months away?
